Manufacturing

Wet processing
Under GOTS it is ensured that only non-toxic chemicals are used during this step. Furthermore GOTS requires all facilities to have efficient wastewater treatment plants.
Weaving & Knitting
Weaving or knitting is the stage at which yarn is converted into fabric. GOTS requires that only GOTS-certified yarns are processed.
Fun fact: in contrast to conventional production, GOTS prohibits any heavy metals in machine oils.
Spinning
Spinners must buy GOTS certified materials, track purchases, manage waste, reconcile volumes, and document transportation properly.
First processing stages
GOTS requires clear separation of organic and conventional fibres in storage to prevent contamination. Raw fibres must meet organic standards, with checks for GMOs and ethical sourcing. Certificates must verify organic status.
Field
