A GOTS Journey

Before organic fibres enter GOTS-certified textile processing, they must be certified according to an organic production standard recognised by GOTS and go through checks such as GMO and pesticide residue testing.

GOTS requires clear separation of organic and conventional fibres in storage. The organic fibres used must be certified according to an organic production standard recognised by GOTS and have the required supporting documentation.

Spinning
Certified spinners must use GOTS-certified fibres and meet the GOTS requirements for documentation, quantity reconciliation, waste management and transport.

Weaving & Knitting
During weaving and knitting, yarn is turned into fabric. GOTS requires that only GOTS-certified yarns are processed. GOTS requirements prohibit heavy metals in machine oils.

Wet processing
Only GOTS-approved chemicals are used during certified wet-processing. Furthermore GOTS requires certified facilities to have wastewater treatment plants.

Manufacturing
Your GOTS-certified item is a true work of art. It has been cut, made and processed by skilled people. GOTS-certified production facilities must meet the applicable GOTS social criteria, including requirements on working conditions, non-discrimination, and the prohibition of child and forced labour. Trading
GOTS certification sets environmental and social requirements for the certified processing, manufacturing and trading stages. Using the GOTS identification number on the label, you can identify the certified supplier in the public GOTS database.
