CARE BY ME is a Danish brand that first received GOTS certification in 2017. Every piece of their collection begins long before the first stitch, in a journey that connects design excellence from Copenhagen with the world’s best traditions of craftsmanship in Nepal, India and Italy.
When CARE BY ME was founded in 2012, Danish designer Camilla Gullits set out to find ways to combine two worlds: timeless design with the finest natural materials and skilled artisanship. This vision led her to Nepal, where the brand’s very first cashmere collection was created by just three women. That beginning wasn’t just about textiles; it was about empowerment. Today, more than 75 artisans carry that legacy forward. They are mothers, daughters, sisters: women who pour their skill and patience into every knit and in return gain something immensely valuable: independence, security and the ability to shape a better future for themselves and their families.
As the brand grew, Camilla sought to expand the collection with organic cotton. The search for the right place led naturally to India as a country with one of the world’s oldest cotton traditions and a deep expertise in organic cultivation, as well as textile production.
Here, CARE BY ME found the perfect pathway: a way to honor one of history’s most significant cotton heritages while ensuring their production lived up to the highest ecological and social standards through GOTS. This step added a new dimension to their vision: uniting heritage and responsibility through sustainable, certified production.
The story didn’t stop there. Recently, the brand expanded to Prato, Italy, a region with a century-long history of working with recycled textiles. Long before sustainability was a concept, recycling in Prato was born out of necessity: a lack of raw materials, high wool prices, and strong demand for woolen garments. Now, this tradition has become an expertise. CARE BY ME collaborates with Italian artisans to create recycled cashmere and wool collections, combining luxury with circularity.
The brand believes responsibility doesn’t stop at design. For more than eight years, they have been (and still are) certified to GOTS. For many, GOTS is mainly about the environment. And yes, it ensures that fibres such as organic cotton processed without harmful chemicals and with care for our planet. But for brands like CARE BY ME, it’s majorly also about people. It means that the women in their supply chain can work with safe materials and fair processes. GOTS is one of the ways their team in Denmark can make sure their promise to women holds true, every step of the way.
